The Bayport Heritage Association was formed in 1983 and is dedicated to the preservation of the history of Bayport. The association has an extensive collection of archival photographs, vintage clothing, artifacts and books. Through the years, the group has been particularly active in the restoration of Meadow Croft, a John Ellis Roosevelt summer home and now a historical museum on the border of Bayport and Sayville. The association provides lectures and resources- educational, historical, environmental and social programs and services for the community and interested public.

Volunteers Needed

Chair Person for Christmas at Meadow Croft
Gene Horton has been the Chair Person for quite some time and would like to pass the baton on to someone else so he can work on other exciting events.
Please take a moment to consider volunteering to take over.
Of course, Gene will be only a phone call away to assist.
Here’s what’s needed:

Chair-person's responsibilities:
Organize the event and set up committees.
Refreshments; Music; St. Nicholas; Decorator Volunteers to decorate each room;
Exhibits Upstairs; Publicity; Raffles, Parking; Friday night reception; Invitations:

Committees are the key to success!
Gene Horton says, "I have a handbook all ready to pass on to the next chair-person and I will be glad to assist him/her 100%."

Please consider taking on this amazingly rewarding position!

The formal heirloom garden is now awake!
A walk-through with Dan Pichney mid-April with prospective volunteers was educational and enlightening.  We are going to miss him, his vast knowledge, time and effort, along with his generous donations.  Thanks Dan, we are glad you will be just an email away!
Please feel free to join us on Friday mornings at 9 a.m. or whenever you can get there to enjoy the serene surroundings while getting some exercise and learning from the several Master Gardener Volunteers and perennial curators.

Bring gardening gloves, bucket for compost additions, kneeling pad, any hand garden tools you may have, and a desire to dig in.  We will supply herb flavored water (bring a drinking vessel), pleasant conversation and camaraderie.
Thank you Lorraine Leacock, (631) 363-3646,, for volunteering your time and organizing this year’s beautiful garden.

The Association is in need of docents at Meadow Croft. It requires very little time, less than two hours a day, two days a month, June through October.
If you or someone you know is interested in history, please have them contact Harriet Milsten at 631-472-4625.

Both the house tour in October and holiday event in December need volunteers. There are so many opportunities to help and a great experience as you mingle with other Bayport/Blue Point residents.

For autumn house tour committee, call Jaci Montgomery, 631-419-6044.
For December Christmas/Holiday event, call Gene Horton, 631-363-6487.
