The Bayport Heritage Association was formed in 1983 and is dedicated to the preservation of the history of Bayport. The association has an extensive collection of archival photographs, vintage clothing, artifacts and books. Through the years, the group has been particularly active in the restoration of Meadow Croft, a John Ellis Roosevelt summer home and now a historical museum on the border of Bayport and Sayville. The association provides lectures and resources- educational, historical, environmental and social programs and services for the community and interested public. In June 2018, Blue Point joined the Association to include both communities.

Meadow Croft Tours

Saturday & Sunday, from June through October,
Meadow Croft is open for visitors.
Tours will be Saturday and Sunday, 2 pm.

The John Ellis Roosevelt Home known as Meadow Croft located at 200 Middle road in Sayville.

John Ellis Roosevelt and his family escaped the summer heat of the city for the cooling breezes of Long Island. The original house was built in 1867, purchased by the Roosevelt's in 1890 and expanded in the colonial Revival style by noted architect, Isaac Green Jr.

It was owned by the Roosevelt's for nearly a century. By the early 1980's, the house had fallen into disrepair and was threatened with being lost. Bayport Heritage Association came to its rescue, approaching the county and creating a partnership.

During the tour new exhibits include works from local artists, the auto Barn and the long awaited Carriage house.
Pack a picnic lunch, take a tour, then go back and do some wine tasting at Loughlin Vineyards.
Hope to see you there!

For more information email us at bbphistorial@gmail.com or check us out

Sunday May 15th 2pm-4pm

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING: Sunday May 15th 2pm-4pm.
At the Bayport Blue Point Library

Historian and writer Elizabeth Kahn Kaplan -
George Washington’s Long Island Spy Ring
Elizabeth Kahn Kaplan
Elizabeth Kahn Kaplan

Come to our meeting/presentation and see how the Culper Ring was formed at the urging of Washington, who needed information about British troop movements in New York.
Washington and his army had fled Manhattan after the Continental Army’s disastrous loss at the Battle of Long Island, in Brooklyn, on August 28-29, 1776.

Perhaps you’ve wondered how much of the series, Turn, on the AMC television channel is factual and how much is pure fiction. It tells the story of the Culper Spy Ring that provided information to George Washington during the American Revolution.

Kaplan was the lead curator in 2010 of Setauket's Three Village Historical Society’s exhibit.

Spies: How A Group of Long Island Patriots Helped George Washington Win the Revolution.

She has written curriculum guides for the New-York Historical Society and for Stony Brook University. She presented this program at George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens in Virginia, and at the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C.

Come to see this very informative presentation!
