The Bayport Heritage Association was formed in 1983 and is dedicated to the preservation of the history of Bayport. The association has an extensive collection of archival photographs, vintage clothing, artifacts and books. Through the years, the group has been particularly active in the restoration of Meadow Croft, a John Ellis Roosevelt summer home and now a historical museum on the border of Bayport and Sayville. The association provides lectures and resources- educational, historical, environmental and social programs and services for the community and interested public. In June 2018, Blue Point joined the Association to include both communities.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING:
Sunday, November 8th 2015 at 2pm in the Public Library

Gatsby’s Long Island with Monica Randall

Perhaps the most lavish parties ever held in the pages of American literature
were the Galas Jay Gatsby threw at his estate on Long Island’s North Shore.
The original Gatsby Mansion that inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald,
remains hidden behind rusting gates,
forgotten relics of an era that will never come again.

Join Historian and bestselling author,
Monica Randall
for this colorful slide presentation based on her popular book,
Mansions of the Gold Coast.
It includes rare photos of the sprawling castle that inspired Fitzgerald to write,
The Great Gatsby.
Included in the program are little known details and photos of the infamous Woodward Murder Case,
The Mysterious F.W. Woodworth Mansion, “Winfield,” and
Furguson Castle, with its floors paved with tomb stones.

October 11th Meeting, 2015

Sunday, October 11th 2015 at 2pm in the
Bayport Blue Point Public Library

"Did You Know...Interesting Facts about Long Island" featuring Historian Noel Gish

This lecture will cover little known facts of interest about the island that English colonists called "Long". Many people that have lived or worked on Long Island have contributed to society including scientists, writers, and artists.
We have a population that is greater than many of the states and
have beautiful landmarks that make us well known.
These tales will come to life in the presentation by Mr. Noel Gish.

Noel Gish taught history at Hauppauge High School for 35 years.
In 1973 he instituted one of the first Long Island History courses for high school students in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Mr. Gish authored a Long Island studies program for Graphic Learning in 1980 and in 1996 authored "Smithtown 1660-1929: Looking Back Through the Lens" for the Smithtown Historical Society.
